Custom Magazine Shopify Theme
Print issues, back catalog sales and reader subscriptions
Independent magazines have a funny economy: a reader who discovers you on issue fourteen tends to want the first thirteen as well. Suddenly the storage closet full of back issues is the best-selling shelf you own. Shopify fits that business well, with print issues as products, subscriptions through a Shopify app, bundles for the back catalog and gift subscriptions for the holidays. Foxco builds a custom magazine Shopify theme with an editorial homepage, issue pages showing the cover, contents and contributors, a back catalog grid that marks sold-out issues, stories on the Shopify blog that point readers to the issue they came from and a newsletter signup on every page. The theme is $999 installed on your Shopify store and configured.

Magazine theme questions
Is this a generic news template?
No. We start from our Shopify framework for magazines and build it out with your masthead, your issues and the editorial pages that make the publication feel like itself.
How long until the store opens?
Usually 7-10 days once we have your logo, cover images and issue details. Rush timelines are possible depending on our bandwidth at the time.
Can readers subscribe to the print edition?
Yes, through a subscription app from the Shopify app store that the theme is designed around. Basic setup is included and complex rules like prorated starts can be a custom project. The app's fee is billed by its maker, separate from the $999.
Can we sell digital editions too?
Digital PDFs can be sold through a digital download app alongside the print issues. A paywall for online articles is a bigger job, which we can scope as a custom project.
Issue fourteen's new reader is going to go looking for the rest of the run, so the theme makes the back catalog as easy to browse as the current issue and keeps every cover on display.
Issue pages that sell the whole package
Each issue gets a page with the cover, the table of contents, the contributors and a few spreads, so a buyer knows what's inside before paying. Print runs live in Shopify inventory, which means an issue flips to sold out the moment the last copy goes. Sold-out issues stay visible with a notify-me signup in case of a reprint.
A back catalog that keeps moving
The back catalog grid shows every issue in order with clear stock markers, plus bundles for collectors who want a full year or the complete run. Gift subscriptions get their own page, which pays off every December. Subscribers and single-issue buyers both run through Shopify checkout with the same shipping rules you already set up.
Stories that point back to print
Foxco sets up the editorial side on the Shopify blog, with features, interviews and excerpts that each link to the issue they came from. A newsletter signup sits at the bottom of every story. Readers come for one article and leave knowing which issue to order, which is the kind of loop a small magazine can live on.
